The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), under the direction of Zoé Robledo, announced the availability of 8,869 positions for graduates from IMSS academic locations and external ones. As part of the National Recruitment Day 2025, positions will be offered in various locations, such as Mexico City, Chihuahua, State of Mexico, Sonora, Chiapas, Veracruz, and Jalisco, in specialties such as Family Medicine, Emergencies, Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Diagnostic Imaging.
In statements made by Robledo Aburto, it was reported that IMSS has hired 86% of its graduates in recent years, establishing itself as a reference employer institution. The importance of the participation of resident doctors in the draft to be held at the National Union of Social Security Workers (SNTSS) Convention Center in Mexico City was emphasized.
The IMSS recruitment day will take place in the coming weeks, with specific dates for IMSS residents from February 26 to March 7, 2025, and for external doctors from March 10 to 13. Interested parties can apply and review the call on the official IMSS website. It was highlighted that of the 18,000 general doctors who presented the ENARM, 9,813 will start their training in Social Security residencies, representing an 11% increase compared to previous years.
On the other hand, it was announced that, following the directives of President Claudia Sheinbaum, an economic incentive of 6,620 pesos will be granted to healthcare professionals to cover staffing in new and existing hospitals. This support will be available for newly opening hospitals in various locations from March 1, 2025, to February 26, 2026.
Regarding hospitals with varying levels of coverage, a 50% incentive for specialist doctors is planned, while in areas of difficult coverage, compensations of 30% will be sought, with the aim of reducing the vacancy of specialist doctors by 15%.
